held @ India International Hospitality Expo 2018

There was a spectacularly engaging session by PPFI on Procurement Strategy for Hospitality Industry. PPFI (Purchasing Professionals Forum of India) is a fraternity of purchasing professionals across HORECA Sector which acts as an advisory body supporting in training and development.

An industry stalwart having been a part of the hospitality industry for the last three and half decades, the welcome address was given by Mr. Amarjit Singh Ahuja (President & Founder of PPFI), “I have a had a long experience in this sector. From F&B cost control, hotel night auditing, establishing vendor selection and management norms, seeing through day to day and operational procurement along with the progress of the renovation process, establishing international linkages in different countries for procuring esteemed organizations, I have come a long way. My sole objective has always been to establish effective costing norms and systems for maintaining efficient procurements. This was the driving vision in establishing PPFI and also of this session.” Moderated by an enthusiastic Rajneesh Sharma (MD, HAMMER) put forth the key objective of the session – to walk away with actionable points and a desire to learn something new as well as bring about effective change.

The panel was graced by experienced leaders from the PPFI board such as Mr. Ashok Bhatt (Head – Purchase, Pullman-Novotel Aerocity, New Delhi), Mr. Naresh Kumar (General Manager, Lemon Tree Hotel Ltd.), Ms. Jagruti Patel (Material Manager, The Leela Palace, New Delhi), Mr. Asheame Mehta (Material Manager, The Oberoi, New Delhi), Mr. Narottam Sharma (Director – Materials, Hyatt Delhi Group), Mr. Avdesh Sharma (Materials Manager, Hotel Radisson), Mr. Gursharan Singh Ahluwalia (Retd. The key topic of discussion throughout the session was an urgent need for a procurement manager to evolve and constantly be on his/her toes. Mr. Naresh Kumar shared his thoughts stating, “There are often times when procurement managers are tricked and we end up buying products much higher than the cost. This wisdom comes with experience where you get to know what are the cost-effective measures as well as how to handle vendors. This would, in turn, ensure better coordination between HORECA suppliers and purchase professionals. In today’s time, PPFI provides a platform for an effective training for all purchasing professionals so that they can evolve in a much more efficient way.”

The session came to a close following a final robust discussion on charting out a way for successful procurement strategies in the future.
